Today I am introducing a new series onto the blog called “On My Beauty Desk”. The truth is, sometimes I go on shopaholic sprees or get a really large delivery of products, and I don’t even get a chance to share half of the products with you, because I just run out of time! It’s such a pity because the products that land on my beauty desk are really fun, new launches, but there is always something else, and when the time comes I forget to write about them(bad Rina).
So this is what I’m going to do: every couple of weeks I’ll do an “On My Beauty Desk” post, featuring some of the new items that I have just bought or been gifted. They will be quick, one-two paragraph reviews, sort of like a “First Impressions” post. If there is anything that catches your eye, and you would like to see a full, separate review, PLEASE let me know! I am more than happy to do a review of anything that interests you guys and share the info. Like I said , some items have been given to me for review purposes, and some I have bought myself, but I will always specify what’s what.
PS I do have an actual beauty desk that is located in my closet room, and its full of make-up, hair products and books(because sometimes I study here too, I just feel more at home amongst all of my beauty products hehe).
So for the first instalment of this series, let’s get right in!
Maybelline Baby Lips Electro
These babies just launched on the market last month, and I was send both of them to try out. Honestly, I was never a huge fan of the original Baby Lips, the only one I liked was the Pink Punch one. These limited edition ones I like a lot better, because of their scents and the pigment being more present. The pink one, called Pink Shock smells like cherries and has the loveliest texture and a very bright pigment- I love it! The green one is called Minty Sheer, and its exactly that- it smells minty and it comes out very sheer, like a lip balm. For R25(2.5$) I would recommend investing in the Minty Sheer for this summer to keep your lips hydrated, and you can also grab the pink one if you want some colour at the beach.
Lush Sweetie Pie Shower Jelly
One of the nicest things about blogging has been getting to meet some amazing girls. Charlene from Gee Whiskers spoiled me rotten for my birthday when she sends me a GIANT Lush pack! This was only the one thing that was in the package, and the first one I am trying out. Like the packaging says, a shower jelly is a hybrid between a soap and a shower gel. It has the funkiest texture- like those jelly shots we all use to do at varsity(anyone? Is it just me?). It literally feels like jelly! When I got it I was a bit confused about how to use it, and thought you need to break it off bit by bit. No,no,no. Turns out you take the whole thing out of the tub and use it like that! When it comes into contact with water, the jelly gets all soapy so you can wash yourself with it. Scent-wise it has cherries and coconut in it, but to me it smells like liquorice. This is a very fun product, and at the cost of R55(5$), I think I might be re-purchasing it when it runs out! Of course it is very slippery in the bath and wants to escape out of your hands, but this is such a fun product and definitely a first of its kind 🙂
MAC Prep+Prime CC Powder
For my birthday I got a MAC voucher from my 2 besties, with which I could get myself a make-up lesson and some products. I wasn’t really sure what I wanted to get from MAC besides the lipsticks which I collect. I got the make-up done for the Angel launch that I went to a couple of weeks back, and during the make-up application, Muzi(the make-up artist) used this powder on me and I really liked how it looked so I decided to get it. Basically what it does, is that it sets your make-up and corrects your tone. You use it after you have applied your base, just a few strokes with a blush brush is enough. Everything just looks so even and smooth after applying it! It cost a heavy R350(35$), but if you are looking for a loose, setting powder this is a great choice.
Revlon Bold Lacquer Waterproof Mascara
If you have been reading my blog for a while, you would know that I am in the search of the prefect mascara. I try out new mascaras all the time, and barely ever buy the same one twice. This is a new addition from Revlon, and so far I like the brush and the texture. However it has been flaking a bit towards the end of the day, which I don’t enjoy. It retails for R120(I think, cant find the price as this was sent to me), and as far as drug-store mascaras go, I would rather go for their Grow Luscious Mascara which I adore. The fact that this mascara is waterproof adds extra points, but I just don’t know if anything can top their Grow Luscious mascara for me.
Vichy Idelia Eyes
I suffer with a bit of dark circles already, and the fact that I am always running around like a chicken and not getting enough sleep, results in unflattering circles and shadows under my eyes. I use concealer every single day, so I am always on the look-out for a product that can reduce the appearance of dark circles for me. While nothing can actually cure dark circles(sorry ladies, it’s like with split ends), you can use products to make them less visible, or make them fade-out a little over time. I have been really enjoying using this Vichy Idealia Eyes contour, because firstly of its amazing shape- it has a flexible silicone applicator that is so easy to apply for such a sensitive area as under your eyes. It contains caffeine which illuminates your skin, and vitamin CG which softens your fine lines. I apply this every morning after my moisturizer and before my foundation and concealer. Also if you use concealer, this is great for making it stay put and go-on evenly. Almost like a primer for under your eyes. The 15ml tube retails for R295(29$), and I will give you a full review of this once I have let the product run for a few months.

Thanks for reading !:) I didn’t know about this powder until my make-up lesson! Its expensive but it is good. If you are looking for something more budget-friendly also try out the Almay loose-setting powder. I use it often and its just as good !:)
