Part of our Dubai trip was attending Season 5 of Fashion Forward. What is Fashion Forward you may ask? Well it’s basically like our fashion week, where established and up-and-coming designers of the UAE get to showcase their latest collections.I was really excited to experience it, because it is always fascinating to see how fashion week runs in a different country. Also seeing the street style is a highlight for me, especially in the country like UAE! Today I wanted to share a little bit of what I saw trending from the shows and what I think will be big trends this upcoming and next winter!
Now let’s get into the trends
Birds Of A Feather
A trend I am absolutely loving this season is the feather trend. I was happy to see touches of feather all over the runway, and you don’t have to look like a mad chicken with this trend! It can be a soft touch to your skirt, or the bottom of the dress, but you can also embrace it and go full out.I am looking for a feathery skirt everywhere, so if you spot one, please let me know.
Monochrome Sports Luxe
I haven’t been a fan of the sports luxe trend before, but its time to embrace the trend and have fun with it.House Of Nomad based their whole collection on it, while other brands added a touch of sport to their collections like a varsity jacket or a training jersey. It’s especially hot this season in the monochrome palette and I think it adds “chic-ness” to this sporty trend.
I recently got shoes with laser cuts, and I think its such a fun take on the usual cut-out trend. It’s all about laser cut-outs in aaaall the right places. You can embrace the trend with a top, a cape or even a dress!
It’s no secret how much I love my midi skirts, and I was glad to see that this trend isn’t going anywhere. From coats to dresses, the midi silhouette is everywhere and its been spruced up so you don’t always look like a 50s housewife(which I clearly love). You can play it up in a sporty way, a printed way or a wintery way.
It Is A Mans World
Structured suits are making a big comeback from the 80s, and thank goodness they got rid of the shoulder pads! Enter prints, military details and classic black and white. Whether you are rocking the boardroom or the party room, make this trend a must-try this season.
Of course our crew was also dressed to the nines, to show Dubai what South African style is all about.
Shashi Naidoo is looking lady-like in her Burberry Midi Skirt and Gert Johan Coetzee top, Tumi Voster and LeAnne Dlamini are embracing the suit trend with the fun addition of cut-off vests(love!), and while Tumi looks gorgeous in white, Leanne strikes in pink. And Lorinda looks leggy gorgeous in this Zara dress.
My girls Dimi and Tyashnee were rocking the ever trendy jumpsuits, and Kelly stuck to a classic muted palette(which I am really loving after our trip together). And me, well I showed Dubai some local flavor in my printed Gert Johan Coetzee skirt paired with a lace crop top.
Any of these trends catch your eye?
