Happy Monday guys and I hope you are ready for a fresh dose of beauty on the blog! I don’t do as many beauty reviews anymore as I would like, but what can I say, the working world ain’t a joke! Today’s beauty review is something super exciting and something that is a first in the beauty world. Ladies (and a few gentlemen) please meet the new L’Oreal Infallible Matte Max Lip Pencils! These are a gel to powder (that’s right, powder) lippies that deliver the perfect matte lip that you desire to achieve this season!
Now I’m not going to lie to you, I was very sceptical about these at first. A powder for your lips? Surely powder is reserved for anywhere else on your face but your lips? Well with this revolutionary formula it can now translate to your lips as well, in 6 gorgeous colours. First thing is first- make sure your lips are ready for a matte lip before using these. What I mean by that is that make sure your lips are exfoliated and nourished. Because of the super matte texture of these lip pencils, every flake on your lip will be visible, so make sure to do the prep beforehand. I suggest a nice sugar scrub right beforehand to get rid of any dead cells, and a little bit of lip balm every night should be your go-to rule in winter anyway to keep your lips looking in top shape.
The applicator of the Matte Max Lip Pencils is a very soft sponge with a precision tip. These lip pencils form a part of the L’Oreal Sculpt Collection, so it’s all about sculpting your lip exactly how you want it. I sort of think of this as a hybrid between a lip pencil and a lipstick, but with a powder finish (if that makes sense?). If you are worried that these will be too dry and cakey on your lips, rest assured as these lip pencils are enriched with micro-oils that keep lips feeling hydrated for up to 8 hours. I didn’t find the actual product drying on my lips at all, but I did struggle with the application at first. I got a hand on it around the third time, and what I loved is that the colour on all 3 was buildable, again, the freedom of choice when it comes to sculpting your lips.
Onto the separate colours, I have here 3 of the 6 available- Oops I Pink It Again, Disturbia and I Gotta Feeling (yes those are all song names ;))
Oops I Pink It Again
Oops I Pink It Again is a bright pink that’s great for every-day wear. I really like the precision sponge applicator here because I can give my lips the perfect outline with it, and then fill in the rest. I also read that these lip pens work great for an ombre lip, but I’m not brave enough to try that yet- are you? 😉
Disturbia
This shade lives up to its name and is a very bright red with a mix of coral. It felt super comfortable on the lips, and I completely forgot I was even wearing lipstick until I caught a glance of myself in the mirror with this bright shade on. Perfect a Friday Night cocktail (and it stays on for a good couple of hours even after drinking and eating).
I Gotta Feeling
That’s tonight gonna be a good night! This is a gorgeous bright purple colour, which I am planning on rocking throughout winter. Also all of these colours looks exactly like they do on the sponge applicator, on your lips. I know it might be a little hard to see with the Polaroid’s, but what you see is what you get with these babies.
Overall I am pleasantly surprised with these L’Oreal Infallible Matte Max Lip Pencils and they are on counter now for R169.95!
