With my make-up artist Michelle |
Hello beauties! I’m sure most of you would know (and love) the Bobbi Brown brand. It was started by Bobbi herself over 20 years ago. Bobbi started working as a make-up artist in 1980s and the idea and concept behind her make-up brand is that she wasn’t always able to find natural colours that were suitable for everyone, so she started mixing her own shades. With the help of a chemist Bobbi launched her brand in 1991, and her lip palette was sold out in Bergdorf Goodman within hours. 20 years later the brand is as strong as ever, producing cult items such as the Shimmer Bricks and staying on top of beauty trends by releasing beautiful seasonal collections. Kate Upton has recently been announced as the new face for the brand and I couldn’t think of anyone more suitable to carry this classy brand forward!
Just before my trip to Russia the wonderful people over at Bobbi Brown invited me to have a “Pretty Powerful” lesson at their Melrose Arch store. If you don’t know yet, Bobbi Brown offers free make-up lessons such as Smokey Eyes, Everything Brows and Look Of The Season. All you have to do is book! And if you would like a Special Occasion Make-up or need help organized your make-up and knowing what to use, Bobbi Brown also offers that option for R350.
The “Pretty Powerful” make-up lesson is a 10-step process. You start from the basics with your skin (did you know Bobbi Brown also offers a fantastic skin-care range) and it covers everything you need to know to look and feel confident. It’s you, just a little bit prettier and more confident. I chose the Extra Bright skin-care range as this enhances and illuminates your skin but let my make-up artist make the rest of the choices for me. I loved the result! I have always been scared of doing a cat-eye because I have quite narrow eyes and usually end up looking very silly with it, but paired with my favourite dark-lip and neutral eye-shadow, I absolutely loved it!
Looking a little bit scary in the before picture. Have my cheeks always been this big? |
The after result |
As you can see in my before photo (yes a little scary eeek) and my after photo, it’s still me but prettier (I hope ;)) .If you are interested in what was used in the lesson here is the list:
Step 1: Skincare- Extra Bright face ream, soothing cleansing oil and tonic.
Step 2: Corrector and Concealer- Light Medium Peach Corrector and Beige Concealer
Step 3: Foundation – Foundation Stick in number 3
Step 4: Powder/Bronzer- Warm Sand 2 Powder and Golden Light Bronzer
Step 5: Blush- Nude Peach Natural Blush
Step 6: Lips- Lip Crayon in Cassis and clear gloss.
Step 7: Brows- Sable
Step 8: Eye shadow- Bark on Lower Lid
Step 9: Eyeliner- Black Ink
Step 10: Mascara- Smokey Eye Mascara
And to spoil my readers I have a special surprise! I am giving away one Bobbi Brown “Pretty Powerful” book! I am a huge fan of coffee-table books and this one is full of beauty stories to inspire confidence. It is full of wisdom and make-up advice and has some amazing stories from women.

What makes me “pretty powerful” is the fact that I understand my past experiences were meant to prepare me for my purpose which I am living now.I believe my power lies in the combination of my life experiences (many peaks and just as many valleys) and my resilience throughout, all the while not allowing prior baggage to dictate my present nor navigate my future. Thank you for this bit of inspiration.

I am pretty powerful because I am strong willed and very determined! Thick skinned as they like to call them…I tend to always take what live gives me and make it work to the best of my ability, and my persevering attitude really gets me through. Teamed up with a positive spirit, I always rise up above my challenges. I don’t stay down for too long, always kicking back with a SMILE (which makes me pretty), and BOXING GLOVES (which makes me powerful)!

I believe that what makes me pretty powerful is my positive attitude. No matter what life throws at me, I take it head on a get through it. I also realise that every cloud has a silver lining, so with this positive attitude I feel like I can tackle any task that comes my way. I believe that challenges are brought into our life to make us a better and stronger person, so I try not to forget that. I also believe that I am pretty powerful because I am in a career I am passionate about. With this passion and drive for success I feel that nothing can stop me in achieving my goals. I would love to read Bobbi Brown’s book as I’ve heard so many great things 🙂

outl0strokewidth0 strokec2 I am pretty powerful because I understand that I am exactly where I am meant to be, every decision I have made in my life has lead me to where I am today, the laughter and the tears, all the hopes and even the fears have played their part in making me the women I am today. If a broken spine didn’t happen, I would never have met my wonderful amazing husband, so I live in today, and have no regrets!!!

I think being pretty powerful to me is based on a set of collective experiences. It’s also my eternal optimism in the face of adversity, my individualism and belief in myself in any activity in my life.

My positive attitude and my smile makes me Pretty Powerful. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder and we can’t please everybody. But a smile and a positive attitude goes a long way and is infectious.

rehana seedat email: dseedat@telkomsa.net I think what makes me “pretty powerful” is my tenacity. That drive to get back up,no matter how many times life knocks me down. And using all of those experiences to be a better person going forward. Being comfortable in my own skin, knowing what’s important to me , and doing what makes me happy. When I feel good about myself there’s no limit to what you can do. Life’s experiences & hardships I have encountered, has certainly made me the strong and “Pretty Powerful” person I am today

What makes me ‘pretty powerful’ is accepting my flaws and learning to accentuate my natural beauty. Sure, I will never fit in media’s idea of pretty – but I have moved on fro that, and am empowered and confident in who I am. Twitter: bb_blogza
