I always thought that I would be so excited to plan my wedding, so a couple of days after I got engaged, I popped on over to Pinterest, created my wedding board and started looking. An hour later, I was so overwhelmed, that I closed Pinterest altogether, and didn’t look at it again for 2 months. Surprise, surprise- wedding planning is so overwhelming! I don’t even know where to start! So this is more of a “Help Me With Wedding Planning Advice” rather than “This Is Where I’m At With Planning My Wedding” post. Also, I wanted to share my engagement pics with you guys, because that was one thing I knew I wanted to do!
In terms of where I’m at with planning our wedding, I can tell you this- we are going to view potential venues on the 17th of May in Cape Town, so I’m hoping that after we have the venue, other things will be a bit easier. We have both decided that we want to get married in Cape Town, because it is one of our favorite cities in the world, which is also why we got engaged there. A fellow bride recommended www.hitched.co.za for me, because you can filter the venues by different cities, different vibes that you like (I specifically looked for vineyards), and you can contact the venues straight from the website. We have selected 5 venues to look at which we like- Babylonstoren, Rickety Bridge, Ex Nihilo, Nooitgedacht and Die Woud. I will keep you updated with which one we end up going with!
In terms of everything else when it comes to wedding planning, this is where I’m asking for help! I’m looking for a wedding planner in Cape Town, as well as a good florist. Where do I begin looking for these things? Where is the best place to get bridesmaids dresses? Which wedding dress salons should I be going to, to find my perfect dress? Who is the best wedding photographer in Cape Town? I’m so fussy when it comes to make-up, I can’t even imagine who to book to do my wedding make-up! One thing I have found, is a fab online registry place called Wrapistry, which I will tell you about in the next few posts. But for now, please help me out with your recommendations!
Now for a bit of a fun part, our engagement pictures! Steve is not into photos at all, so convincing him into these took a long time, but I’m so glad that we did it. We did it at Wits University, because that’s where we met when I was studying there. Steve actually didn’t go to Wits, but he came there on the one day to visit his friend at the Polo Bar, and I happened to be there right before my Economics Test. I was reading this exact book when Steve saw me, and offered his help(because apparently I was staring at one page for an hour, ha-ha), The test didn’t go well that day, but it’s been 9 years since that moment, so I thought having the book in the shoot would be a cute idea.
I love how these pictures came out that Isabel from Kreativ took. Check out her Instagram page, she only started her business in November, and it’s already doing so well! We wanted to do a casual look, and a bit of a formal look, especially because I’m in love with this red dress that I bought at Forever New for our conference. I think these pictures will look really nice in our new home, and it’s something we can show to our children as years go on!
And now, for your wedding planning advice please!
