Since its the week of love, I thought that I would get in the mood and spread the good vibes with a cute outfit post today! You don’t have to ask me twice to wear pink or red, so Valentine’s Day is just an excuse, really. However since I started working 4 years ago, dressing up is not what it used to be. While I loved cute little dresses, loud colours and pairing crop tops with jeans, you unfortunately can’t always do that in the corporate world. My company is not nearly as strict on corporate wear, and we still have a bit of freedom to wear what we want, and every Friday I do rock some jeans and sneakers, however not every corporate is like that. So what do you do when you want to look professional, but still have a bit of fun?
I am currently having a moment with suits, and I am really enjoying it. This has been my “hack” into corporate wear for the last year, but as usual I bring my own style to it. What I am really enjoying and I recommend investing in, is a colourful suit! Yes, a pink number like this is definitely not for the faint-hearted, and it might get you noticed, maybe even too noticed for your liking. But I promise you, a colourful suit is so much fun, and a more interesting way to still look very professional, but be fun!
This specific suit is from Zara, and I got it last season, but you can see a similar version over here. I originally just got the jacket to wear to New York Fashion Week last year, but I ended up loving it so much that I got the pants too(eventually, as they were always running out of stock). The nice thing about a suit is that you don’t have to wear it together, and I often wear the jacket just by itself with some nice jeans and a blouse. The pants are a culotte style(which isn’t always my vibe), but in my opinion(and my co-workers ;)) if you are going to wear a culotte, make it a colourful one. A black culotte, if it doesn’t fit perfectly could be a disaster and a bit “old lady like”. The fit needs to be just perfect, whether with a colourful one like this, you can get away with them being more oversized(as are mine).
So why the colourful suits? Simply, because they are fun! I love this yellow number from Superbalist, and in fact I got a lilac one from the online retailer just last year. If you are feeling slightly more muted, then this military style green suit is the one for you. Zara has A LOT of super nice options, just check out this page over here. The baby pink suit is one of my favourites, and I am looking at adding it to my collection. My blazer also comes in 4 different colours this season, check it out over here. I love the white version, but also wish I could own them all(PS I know that it is pricey, but honestly you get a lot of wear out of this piece).
What to pair a colourful suit with? I say more colour! In terms of the top, I normally always wear it with a white T-shirt or a white blouse, or you can rock a little crop top like this one that I got at Cotton On. For shoes and bag though, I went with a contrasting colour of green, and I love it! The more colour the better I say!
Have I convinced you to invest in a suit yet? Do it 🙂
