Cleaning your make-up brushes is extremely important, but let’s be honest- it’s a complete pain in your butt. It’s advisable to wash your brushes after every single application, but mostly I avoid doing so until the weekend. I do try and wash my brushes as much as possible because dirty brushes can lead to pimples and acne, given all of the bacteria and dirt that they store inside them after use. I still get horrified every time I wash my foundation brush and see all of the stuff that comes out of there, but that’s why I am currently really enjoying this Sigma Express Brush Cleaning Mat, as it has made washing my brushes a whole lot easier.
Sigma is celebrated for inventing hand-crafted,high quality beauty products with an essence for innovation such as this cleaning mat. I know that having a whole cleaning mat just for your brushes might seem a bit excessive, but honestly it’s actually a necessity. This nifty little device features 7 exclusive textures to wash both eye and face brushes. The mat includes suction cups on the backside that makes it very easy to secure on flat surfaces such as your sink. Size wise, its about 20 cm in width and 15 in length, so although its called an Express Cleansing Mat, it is not super small and gets the job done very well.
Its incredibly user friendly as well, and you start by just positioning and securing the mat in your sink (or wherever you plan on washing your brushes). Place your brushes under warm running water, and wash with a little bit of cleansing solution (personally I use baby shampoo) on the allocated sides.
You will see that there is a “Wash Face” and “Wash Eyes” sections that are designed to specifically deep clean the brushes of those forms. There is also a textured “Rinse Face” and “Rinse Eyes” sections where you gently sweep the brush back and forth to remove makeup residue and excess baby shampoo/cleansing solution.
After that you can refine the brushes on the “Refine” section, and for extra cleaning there is even a “Refine Plus” section to really get in there and remove all of the yukiness that might be left over.
Sometimes I am in a rush when cleaning my brushes and simply just wash and rinse them once, but you can go through the whole process a few times if you have time over the weekend. I love the feeling of clean brushes on my face, it only compares to the feeling of crispy clean sheets after a long night out 🙂
So why the need for a whole brush cleaning mat you may ask? Well it has saved me a lot of time, as brushes get washed a lot quicker with it, and I honestly feel like the mat gives it a better and deeper cleanse than just using a cleansing solution by itself. With its textures, the brushes are able to get cleaned even in the tiniest places, and I think it’s worth investing into one of these. They also come in a smaller size, as well as a Cleansing Mit, but whatever your style is, make-sure you are cleaning your brushes as much as possible!
