The Fashion Gods have rejoiced over South Africa, and we are finally getting our own H&M store! For years I have had to stock up on my H&M fix while travelling overseas, and this week will see the opening of the Cape Town store, while next month its Joburgs turn! The international retailer, known for fashion and quality at the best price in a sustainable way, opens its doors on the upper level of Sandton City, Johannesburg’s golden shopping mile. The store will be approximately 3100 square meters and offers a feast for the fashion-forward fans of South Africa’s business capital. Set out on one level and combining the best of global architectural and retail development, the store boasts a truly modern and efficient shopping experience.
For me, I like to think of H&M as a hybrid between Mr. Price and Topshop. Its quality is better than Mr. Price and on-par with Topshop, while its pricing is somewhere in the middle. It is affordable fashion, and H&M stays on top of every trend every season. The Johannesburg store will showcase spring and summer collections for women, men, teens, kids and babies as well as accessories and underwear. The collections for women are saturated with texture, statement prints and sun-drenched color. Denim is washed out, worn tone on tone and infused with bright summer white. Tropical prints are oversized and underpinned with an earth-based palette of rust, ochre and moss. Accentuating the ease of summer, the silhouettes are short, sharp and effortlessly playful.
H&M recently also launched a South African online website, where you can take a look at some of the items which will be available, plus of course there will be many more in store. I browsed through the website, and picked out some of my favorites below. Although I am not a fan of the 70s trend, I really like how H&M is showcasing it this season with a few items. The long black fringed skirt is to-die- for, and the white lace playsuit is also a winner. The pricing is quite good, and you can get your H&M fix starting from as little as R149 for that cute pineapple top. Not too bad, eh?

H&M also has a stunning selection of home-ware, which I have been drooling over. Beautiful rose gold candle holders, cute cushions and marble pieces are just dying to make their way into my home! Sadly the beauty collection from H&M is not coming to South Africa just yet, but stay tuned! 🙂
