Beauty Review – #ChangeYourSkin With Kiehl’s

A month ago the lovely Leigh from Le1ghLo asked me to join her in the Kiehl’s Change Your Skin Campaign. I gladly said yes, because I have used some of the Kiehl’s products before and have loved them. Especially the Midnight Recovery Concentrate(which I will from now on refer to as MRC) which I used for a bit last winter. I try and not change up my skin routine around too much because I never know how my skin will react to the change.  Yes I test out oils, moisturisers and other products, but when it comes to changing my whole skin routine around starting with my cleanser and all the way down to a serum, I am always a little worried.

A little background on the brand- Kiehl’s was found 160 years ago and originally started out as an apothecary. I like how some of the Kiehl’s packing such as the MRC, has the apothecary feel to it!It started out as a family business with generations of the Kihel’s family running the brand. Kiehl’s has some well know Holy Grail products that any beauty lover would know- I have heard so much about their Calendula Herbal Toner that has Calendula petals in it inserted by hand into each bottle, even to this day! In South Africa Kiehl’s is available in select Edgars stores where the sales people greet you in a white lab coat, a throwback to the apothecary days!
We all took part in the #ChangeYourSkin Challenge! Picture is from Leighs website
The Change Your Skin Challenge provided us with the MRC and the Powerful-Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate(sheesh but Kiehl’s likes big words! I will from now on refer to is as PSLRC) and we were required to use it every single night for a month. I am extremely serious about cleansing my face, and wash my face every single night. I can get a little bit lazy with all of the other stuff though like the toner and the serums, so I knew I would have to be really good with using my products religiously to really test them out. To make my skin transition as smooth as possible I decided to change up my face wash as well, and started using the Kiehl’s Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash.

The Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash(retail price R395)- I have heard all kinds of amazing stuff about the Calendula Herbal Toner beforehand, so I was excited to give this baby a go. All of the Kiehl’s products are fragrance free, so there is a very distinct Calendula scent in this face wash. My gran used to put dried Calendula petals in my tea when I was younger(sounds gross but it does taste good) because of all the benefits that the Calendula flower has, so the scent doesn’t bother me at all, in fact I quite enjoy it. But give it a quick sniff before deciding on the buy because this bottle will last you a long, long time so you are really making a commitment to it. I have been using it for over a month, and I am barely one eighth of the way through(according to my mathematical eye ;)). And yes I wash my face every.single.night. It contains glycerin which gives it its texture when you first pump it out of the bottle. I really have enjoyed using this product, and it gets bonus points from me- it removes make-up perfectly during the wash! The bottle closes and opens easily by twisting the lid, and does not leak out(I checked that out now while flying to Russia) so bonus points on the good packing as well!

The Midnight Recovery Concentrate(retail price R615)- This product has been raved about and raved about and I am about to join the raving crew! One of the best facial products I have ever tried in my life, the MRC is really a piece of heaven in a bottle(my friend Chicara from Lipgloss Kisses said she would kill for a bottle of this stuff and I am there with her- so worth it!). It’s filled with all kinds of amazing ingredients such as Omega-6 fatty acids, Squalane, Lavender, and other essential oils including Evening Primrose Oil . I especially love the Lavender oil because it has a bit of a soothing effect and makes you calm right before you sleep. The texture of the MRC is also note worthy- it is incerdibly light and almost dissolves into your skin. There is no specific skin type that should be using the MRC- it is great for everyone. The bottle comes with a little dropper and you can fill it up by pressing the little button on the top. You only need 2-3 drops but I like using 5-6 to give my face a proper treat.
One of the evening during the challenge my MRC was missing from my bed side table because I was showing it to my friends earlier in the day and left it in the lounge. It was late and it was cold so I didn’t feel like getting up and going to the lounge to get it, so I though let me just use one of my other facial oils to hydrate my skin. After using two of my other facial oils, I realised that I can now never go back to using anything else except the MRC! Everything else just smelt too horrible for me or I found the texture too heavy. So it’s safe to say I am addicted to this baby and can never let go!
One of the biggest issues I had this winter was that my skin was extremely dry and dehydrated. It came to a point where I was smothering my dry patches in Vaseline, yes Vaseline. Nothing was helping and I was getting really frustrated. 2 weeks into the challenge I noticed that my skin wasn’t feeling tight in the mornings and after showers anymore, and that my dry patches were gone. When I say this changed my skin, I mean it literally did. I will sing praises to this product forever and ever. This is really magic in a  bottle!

The Powerful-Strength Line-Reducing Concentrate(retail price R645) – It has been clinically-demonstrated to improve overall skin texture, tone and radiance while reducing the appearance of lines and wrinkles. After using the product for a month I can say that the texture and radiance part couldn’t be more true- my skin has been feeling so soft and smooth! The lines part, well , eh I don’t want to lie to you guys. I have seen an improvement around my mouth and forehead area, but it’s not like I have so many lines to start with(not yet). I sort of substituted this as my moisturiser during the challenge because it was just perfect for my skin and exactly what it needed. It has a really strong dosage of Vitamin C in it, so it is perfect for Anti-Aging and I am sure it reduces some pretty fine lines. I am locking this away for next year because apparently once you hit 25 the wrinkles start to come out big time!
I took the photos recently so you can see how much of the product is still left in each bottle- there is a lot! When you start using Kiehl’s you are really making a commitment to your skin. I would recommend the Calendula Deep Cleansing Foaming Face Wash especially now for the summer with its flowery scent and light texture. The Midnight Recovery Concentrate is great all year around and the Powerful-Strenght Line-Reducing Concentrate is great for all of your Anti-Aging worries.
